Vancouver Police Respond to Security Incident
April 20, 2023, Vancouver, BC - The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) responded to an unspecified security incident on the Lions Gate Bridge on Thursday morning. The bridge was closed to traffic in both directions as police investigated.
Bridge Reopens after Metal Sheet Removal
The bridge reopened to traffic at approximately 2:30 pm after police removed a wind-blown metal sheet from light fixtures on the bridge. The VPD did not disclose any further details about the incident.
Upcoming Closures for Bridge Maintenance
On Sunday, April 23rd, the Lions Gate Bridge and Stanley Park Causeway will be completely closed to vehicles from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm for routine maintenance.
Extended Nightly Closures
Additionally, the Lions Gate Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic in both directions for three consecutive nights from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am beginning on Tuesday, April 25th and ending on Thursday, April 27th. During these closures, pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained.
Alternative Routes for Commuters
Commuters are advised to use alternative routes during the upcoming closures, such as the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing or the Burrard Street Bridge.
